Biomedical Image Segmentation: A Survey

Medical Image Segmentation is the process of segmenting and detecting boundaries anatomical structures in various types 2D 3D-medical images. The latter come from different modalities, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), X-Rays, Positron Emission Tomography (PET)/Single-Photon Computed Tomography, (CT), Ultrasound (US). It a key supporting technology for medical applications including diagnostics, planning, monitoring, guidance. Hence, large number segmentation methods have been published past decades. This paper presents comprehensive review current techniques. In particular, we reviewed most important that utilized almost all We grouped these into categories then compared, contrasted, highlighted their main advantages limitations.
